Yesterday we had the pleasure of creating some balloon decor for a corporate event which was completely plastic free.
Plastic is such an enormous issue for our planet, particularly single use plastics, so we were really excited and happy to be asked to contribute to this eco friendly event.
The balloons used were all made from natural latex, a natural product which is produced by tapping rubber trees, the same material used in the production of latex gloves and condoms! Our balloons are all sourced from plantations which are Rainforest Alliance certified.
Latex balloons do biodegrade over time, so provided they are popped and disposed off responsibly, they pose no long term threat to the environment. Latex balloons can even be composted and some members of the Pro Environment Balloon Association are currently experimenting with the best ways that this can be achieved.
Back to the event, we were asked to provide a dozen giant latex balloons with homemade tissue tassel tails and satin ribbon, all fully biodegradable.
For the weights we handmade some eco friendly, plastic free balloon weights using small cardboard boxes filled with gravel and wrapped with recycled paper and satin ribbon. They looked great (if we do say so ourselves!) and received lots of compliments from the crew on site.
We were really pleased with the end results as were the organisers, it was great to know that everything used would biodegrade or could be recycled.
